Nathan's Free Ball game

Nathan, Daddy and Mommy were busy as spectators at John's T-ball game. Daddy and Nathan were happily playing baseball on the sidelines. That's when daddy noticed that Nathan was emanating a nasty smell.

Joe asked if I had a spare diaper in my purse (which I always do.) However this time I didn't as I recently used it and had failed to put a new home in my purse. I told Joe I thought there was a spare in the truck.

Off Joe and Nathan went to the truck.

Not much later they showed up and Nathan was upset. I asked Joe if he found the diaper and he said "No Luck."

So I asked, "What did you do?"

Joe replied, "He's free balling!"

Good choice by Joe as we don't want Nathan to have a sore bottom, but I just prayed we wouldn't have a drenched bottom before the game ended.

Nathan was in tears though and when I asked him what was wrong he replied, "I don't want a free ball game!" And he was very adamant that he did not like the decision Joe had made.

So Nathan and I went home while Joe watched the final half inning of the T-ball game. Nathan told me over and over that he didn't like the "free ball game" and that he needed a diaper.

He was very happy once he request was fulfilled!

John's first T-ball game

John has now started T-Ball and he couldn't be more excited. He got a new bat and pulled out the glove and cleats he takes with to all Daddy's games. And he tells everyone he sees that he now plays t-ball . . .even the check-out clerk at the grocery store.

The kids are fun to watch. At first they are excited and try really hard. As time passes, more and more are looking at the clouds, playing in the dirt or just day dreaming. Without the directions from parents, you wonder if they would even realize they are still "playing" T-ball.

His first game was two innings. Everyone bats until they hit the ball and then the teams switch.

John was the last kid to bat and was told that when he hits the ball he should keep running. Well, he follows directions well. He kept running to second and passed up the kid on second who didn't realize he needed to continue to run. And then he ran to third and then home. But then he decided to continue onto first again . . .followed by second, third and jumped onto home. He was all smiles and so were we!

The mystery of hotdogs

I was making the quick and oh-so-popular kids meal of hot dogs and Mac&Cheese, when Nathan walked over to me.

In keeping with his daily routine, he said "I hungee, Mommy."

And I replied, "I am making hot dogs and macaroni for supper so we will eat soon."

Well, Nathan insisted he needed to see what I was making. So I picked him up so he could see the pots of boiling water and was instructing him that he couldn't touch because everything was very hot.

When I set him down, Nathan looked at me questioning and asked "Why do you give hot dogs a bath?"

I laughed and told him that was how you cook them, but he insists that they are taking a bath.

Little Freddy

John and I were discussing nicknames. He was trying to understand why some people call dad "Freddy." So I explained that it is a short version of our last name.

Then I said that maybe I should call John "Little Freddy." He told me he was not little but I could call him "Medium Freddy."

He then continued with "Daddy is Big Freddy. I am Medium Freddy and Nathan is Little Freddy."

So I asked, 'Where does Mom fit in?"

John replied with "You can be Bigger Medium Freddy!"

Detroit Lakes with the Schuzetenberg Clan

While Joe had to do Fire Department stuff, the boys and I headed to Detroit Lakes for the annual Schulzetenberg get together. We all had lots of fun and the boys especially loved all the pool time. They also had fun playing with all their cousins. Mommy also had a good time with all the family!

John has become quite confident in his life jacket and this year even Nathan thought it was great that he could "swim." Although Nathan was not too thrilled about floating in just the life jacket, he preferred to be situated within a larger floating device.

Christmas memories

Christmas this year was a little different for us since we were not really in out home. Most of the decor was packed away in our garage. We needed something Christmas-like though, so I purchased a 4.5 foot tree. The boys helped me decorate it with handmade ornaments. John cut all strips so we could make a paper chain. Nathan and John colored foam snowman to hang on the tree. And we all hung candy canes all over. It was lots of fun.

But December was a good month to be in a temporary home, because we were gone to much to visit family for the holidays. The boys were spoiled though because every weekend from Thanksgiving through New Year's they had presents to open.

John turns Four

Four year olds know exactly what they want for their birthday . . .everything you find in the toy aisle! And I think John covered the gamut with what he actually received:Ben 10, Bakugons, Transformers, Super Heroes, puzzles, Lightning McQueen, games etc.

John begged to have a birthday with his friends this year, so we had a get together at McDonald's. John had a blast and was so thrilled with everything he got. The kids had fun with a few games and then playing in the indoor playground.

We also had the family birthday, where John was thrilled with even more toys. He did get a few books and some clothes, which I liked but did make the top of the list for the 4-year-old!
