These days John is a sponge. He wants to know what everything is called and if you don't answer quick enough he comes up with his own creative word. For example, he was playing with a puzzle at daycare that had lots of exotic animals. He found the ostrich and a kangaroo and then was stumped by an odd looking furry animal with a bill. Before I could even get a good look at it, John determined it was a beaver-duck. It was actually a platypus, so I was rather impressed with John's reasoning. He didn't quite think the name "Platypus" fitted the animal in the puzzle though and insisted on his own naming convention.
Another day we were driving past an elk farm. Daddy pointed out the elk, but John was not quite in agreement. He insisted that these were Deer Elk. Of course his reasoning was that they looked like deer, but Daddy said they were elk. So he just developed his own name for them.
